Lambda Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) filed a federal class action lawsuit challenging the U.S. Attorney General’s and U.S. Department of Justice’s efforts to compel healthcare institutions in New York City, including NYU Langone Hospitals, to hand over the identities and sensitive health information of transgender youth who received gender-affirming medical care between 2020 and 2026.

The case is filed as a class action such that, if certified, the plaintiffs would represent a class of all people who received any medical treatment for gender dysphoria while they were under eighteen years of age, from January 1, 2020, through May 5, 2026, at a healthcare institution located in New York City that has received a grand jury subpoena like that received by NYU Langone.
