Lambda Legal is pleased to announce that it will honor Jenner & Block partner Laurie Edelstein at the San Fransisco Soirée on Friday, May 17, at The Pearl (601 19th Street, San Francisco). The annual event raises funds to support Lambda Legal and the fight for LGBTQ+ equality in California and nationwide. It is hosted by Dana Goldberg and will also feature remarks from Lambda Legal CEO Kevin Jennings.
Over the past six years, Edelstein has served as primary co-counsel in three cases of enormous magnitude to Lambda Legal. She helped prepare and argue the successful challenge to the Trump administration’s rule revoking regulatory health care protections for LGBTQ+ people and other vulnerable populations (Whitman-Walker Clinic v. HHS). Currently, she serves as primary co-counsel in Lambda Legal’s challenges to Oklahoma’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for trans youth (Poe et.al. v. Drummond et.al.) and the Iowa “don’t say LGBTQ” law and book ban (Iowa Safe Schools, et al v. Reynolds). She has also authored multiple amicus briefs in support of cases impacting the LGBTQ+ community. At Jenner & Block, Edelstein represents energy and technology companies nationwide in litigation and regulatory matters.
“Pro bono co-counsel in our cases help us expand our capacity and reach as we fight for the rights of LGBTQ people across the country,” said Lambda Legal counsel and health care strategist Omar Gonzalez-Pagan. “While we are fortunate to count many talented attorneys as pro bono co-counsel, Laurie Edelstein is one of those attorneys whose talent, commitment to our work, and kindness stand out. A dependable ally and supporter of our work and a superb and gifted attorney, few are as deserving of recognition as Laurie Edelstein.”
“I am honored to be recognized by Lambda Legal,” said Edelstein. “Although it is important to celebrate the work that has been done, I look forward to continuing the fight against those who want to silence LGBTQ+ voices. I very much respect Lambda Legal for all their hard work and what they have accomplished, and I am excited to continue the fight alongside them.”
