Add Your Name: Urge President Biden to Protect Trans Youth by Vetoing the National Defense Authorization Act

In case you missed the latest news, Congress just passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for this year. Far-right members have been using the budget for the Department of Defense to continue to erode the rights of LGBTQ+ people.

The version of the bill that just passed in the Senate, having already passed in the House of Representatives, contains a provision that would ban the military’s health insurance program, Tricare, from covering gender-affirming care for dependents of servicemembers who are under 18. This provision specifically blocks trans youth from accessing this care while allowing the coverage of the exact same forms of care for others.

This provision is not only discriminatory but utilizes stigmatizing language and legitimizes misinformation about the long-term safety of best practice medical care for trans youth. Gender-affirming medical care for children is safe, effective, and essential, and endorsed by all major U.S. medical associations.

But, instead of following the science, members of the House and Senate have approved a discriminatory ban on care that is readily provided for children who are not transgender.

That’s why we need your help.

Add your name to join us and urge President Biden take a stand for trans youth and veto the NDAA!
